NOTICE

On April 15, 1998 the OET Equipment Authorization Division converted to new Equipment Authorization System (EAS) processing software. This begins the process of providing the public with the opportunity to electronically file a Form 731 application for equipment authorization, including all required exhibits, with the Commission. Therefore, after April 13 no new information, including application status, will be entered on the PAL system (i.e. an application in RT status on April 13 will never change from that status on PAL after April 13). All information on the status of pending applications, as well as additional access to equipment authorization data, can now be found by accessing the Internet at http://www.fcc.gov/, proceeding to the Electronic Filing site, then to the OET Equipment Authorization Division Electronic Filing Site, then select desired report. To find the status of a pending application, a Form 731 confirmation number and an FCC Identifier must be entered at the Application Status query. On April 16, 1998 the grantee / applicant for all pending equipment authorizations was mailed a Confirmation Number that must be used concurrent with their FCC ID to determine the status of a pending application. All grantee/applicants for new equipment authorizations received after April 13, 1998 will be mailed a letter that includes the Confirmation Number for their pending application at the time of data log-in at the FCC Laboratory.

PAL will remain connected until approximately June 1, 1998, however, there will be no additional updates after April 13, 1998. A Public Notice announcing the effective date for electronic filing of the Form 731 will be issued in the near future.

Welcome to the On-line Equipment Authorization Database. The database is broken into two parts, one for Certification/Notification and another for Type Acceptance/Notification.

The Certification/Notification database covers devices operating under Parts 15 and 18 of the FCC rules, including: cordless telephones; remote control devices; short-range radio local area networks; personal computers; computer modems, video monitors, printers, etc. It also includes equipment operating in the Family Radio Service and Low Power Radio Service under Part 95 of the rules.

The Type Acceptance/Notification database covers radio transmitters operating under the various radio services such as: broadcast transmitters; cellular radios; personal communications service equipment; aeronautical and maritime mobile radios; business and land mobile radios; location and monitoring equipment; etc.

The databases typically list the grantee of equipment authorization, date of grant, power output, frequency range, rule parts that apply, and comments (which typically are terms describing the device, but these are optional). A search for a particular character string will produce a list of all records that include that string. A "." (period) may be used as a single character wild-card and ".*" (period asterisk) may be used for a multiple (including zero) character wild-card for searches.

Search Examples would include:

The name of the manufacturer is not required to be reported to the Commission and the grantee for equipment authorization may or may not be the manufacturer. There may be no U.S. contact and telephone numbers are not available in the database.

As of August 19, 1996, the manufacturer or supplier of a personal computer or a personal computer peripheral has the option to self-declare compliance with the FCC rules. No filing with the Commission is required if the manufacturer chooses this option and no information is available in the database.

Information on pending applications for equipment authorization and equipment authorized within the last month is available only through OETs Equipment Authorization System. The Equipment Authorization System provides access to both pending and granted equipment authorization records. However, pending records can only be accessed by FCC ID and confirmation number.

Copies of the actual equipment authorization files for equipment granted during the last 5 years are available for inspection at the FCC Laboratory in Columbia, Maryland, or for a fee by contacting International Transcription Services at (202) 857-3800. The files typically include a technical description of the equipment, measurement report showing compliance with the FCC technical standards, and block diagram of the circuitry. Schematic diagrams are not required for personal computer equipment.

While this search program has some limitations, we believe many people will find it useful. You can download the database to perform your own searches using other software by accessing the page Equipment Authorization Data Files

If you are trying to locate new software drivers or the manufacturer for a piece of computer equipment, you should first find the name of the manufacturer with the search above then use your favorite Internet search engine (e.g. WebCrawler, Yahoo, Excite...) to locate the web site of the manufacturer. Please note that the first three digits of the FCC ID Number are unique for each manufacturer. If you cannot find their web site, try a software driver web site. (e.g. MrDriver.com, WinFiles.com, Windrivers.com...) The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 prohibits the Commission from collecting information that does not directly relate to the function for which the information is collected in this case equipment authorization. Therefore, we cannot legally collect manufacturers web site information nor add that information to this web site.
